Steps to Take in the Event of an Accident
(Non-Emergency Situation)
- If the accident involves another vessel, obtain from the operator of
the vessel all pertinent information, i.e., name, address, work and home
phone, vessel CF number and their insurance company. (See
below).
- Report the accident as soon as possible to your agent and/or broker.
Have as many of the details as possible available when reporting your loss.
- Take your vessel to an authorized Marine Service Center as soon as
practical. Provide your Marine Service Center with your Boat/Yacht insurance
policy information.
- Have your Marine Service Center complete an estimate for the repairs
to the vessel and send it to the claims department as advised by your agent
and/or broker.
- Upon completion of repairs, inspect your vessel along with a representative
of the Marine Service Center to ensure the repairs are to your satisfaction.
Safe boating is everyone's responsibility. Be considerate to other
vessel operators and obey the rules of the road, as they apply to all waterways
and all vessels. Avoiding hazardous areas or situations can be your best
tool in the prevention of accidents.
